CCANJ promotes a universally accessible, affordable & high quality system of early care & education that is responsive to parental choice. We believe that all children deserve access to high quality, affordable child care. The Assembly Women and Children Committee met on January 19th and unanimously voted to move S-651 with amendments to the Assembly Appropriations Committee. The bill will require family child care providers and adults in the home to undergo criminal history background checks. The bill was passed in the Senate 37-0 in December 2016.
The federal Child Care Development Block Grant (CCDBG) Reauthorization Act of 2014 increases the health and safety requirements for all child care and early learning programs that accept child care subsidies. These changes include such provisions as ensuring that all providers are meeting all of the building codes, expanding who must get a criminal background check and requiring staff to take numerous trainings.
